How to get to Mongolia from Japan

Since Mongolia is a landlocked country between Russia and China, if you want to go to Mongolia you will most likely take a plane unless you live in Russia or China or pass through these countries. There are several airlines that conduct direct flights to Mongolia such as Korean Airlines, Turkish Airlines, and Air China. However, when it comes to Japan to Mongolia there are only 2 options Mongolian International Air Transport (MIAT) and Aero Mongolia which conducts a direct flight from Narita Intl. Airport (NRT) to Chinggis Khaan Intl. Airport (ULN).

What do Mongolians really ride?

Have you ever wondered what Mongolians really ride in day-to-day life? Is it just horses that they used to ride for thousands of years or just a Toyota Prius same as the rest of the world? After your arrival in Mongolia, you will realize that Mongolians do ride both. In Ulaanbaatar the capital city of Mongolia, wherever you go you’ll see a lot of Toyota Priuses due to their low fuel usage. On the other hand, when you are out of Ulaanbaatar you will see a herd of horses roaming everywhere.

Transportation in Ulaanbaatar

Mongolia does not have metro lines that are connected throughout the country, so the best way to explore the country, as well as Ulaanbaatar, would be 4×4 four vehicles. Excluding the heavy traffic in Ulaanbaatar during the rush hours, you can enjoy the city tour by car.

The cheapest way to explore Ulaanbaatar would be by bus, you can buy a bus card near almost every bus stop and you have to charge the card. A single bus ride will cost 500MNT about 20 JPY regardless of how far you go. On the other hand, a taxi will charge 2000MNT or 80 JPY per km.

How to explore rural Mongolia?

As mentioned before Mongolia is not connected by metro lines moreover Mongolia is huge and dirt roads are always part of the trip thus 4×4 wheel vehicles are the best option to explore rural areas of Mongolia.
