Things you must before traveling to Mongolia

Since Mongolia is not a very well know travel destination. In this article, we will help you to get to know about Mongolia as a first-time traveler.

1. What is Mongolian currency, and how much cash should I bring?

The Mongolian currency is the tugrik (MNT).  1 JPY equals 24 MNT. And 1 USD equals 2850 MNT. In Ulaanbaatar city, most shops, restaurants, and hotels will accept visas/credit cards but in case you wish to buy small items from the local shops, you better bring some local currency about 10000 – 15000 JPY for a 7-10 days tour.

2. Do I have to exchange my money? Where can I exchange my money?

In Mongolia, no foreign currencies are accepted according to law. So it would be better to exchange your money for tugrik (MNT).  You can exchange any bank in Mongolia. Also, people usually exchange their money at the airport or state department store.

3. How about the VISA? Do I need it?

Citizens of Japan do not need to obtain a tourist visa to Mongolia within 30 days.

4. What language do Mongolians speak?

Mongolians speak Mongolian. But rest assured. Our staff can speak Japanese and English fluently so when you travel to Mongolia there will be no language barrier. Also in Ulaanbaatar, you can easily find people who can speak English or Japanese. 

5. How do I get to Mongolia?

Direct flights are coming to Ulaanbaatar from Tokyo, Beijing, Moscow, Hongkong, Seoul, Berlin, and Istanbul.  Also, you can choose the trans-Mongolian train from Moscow or Beijing. 

Domestic flights and trains are limited but it is very helpful when you are traveling far away destinations of the country.
