The Blue Pearl Ice Festival is Mongolia’s biggest winter event. Every year, during the first week of March, Mongolia celebrates its biggest Ice Festival on frozen Khuvsgul Lake. Khuvsgul Lake is 136 kilometers long and 36 kilometers wide, making it Mongolia’s second-biggest lake.  From late December to the beginning of April this massive lake completely freezes and creates natural wonders in northern Mongolia. 

During the Ice Festival, you can do all sorts of winter activities.

Tour Description:

On this tour, you will explore the Mongolian winter wonderland Hanh Town and the Blue Pearl Ice Festival. The Blue Pearl Ice Festival is Mongolia’s largest ice festival held on frozen Lake Khuvsgul Mongolia’s largest freshwater lake by volume and the second largest lake by area, holding 0.4% of the world’s freshwater.

You will also explore the southern and northern shores of the lake. The southern part is where the ice festival is held and is one of the most popular areas of the lake. Meanwhile, the northern part of the lake is very sparsely populated and its natural beauty is captivating. On this northern shore, you can see the highest peaks of the majestic Sayan Mountains.

Please make your reservation early to ensure smooth tour arrangements. Every year, about 40,000 people, including foreigners and Mongolians participate in this festival.

About the Hanh town

Hanh town is one of the most isolated yet beautiful places in Mongolia, it is located northern shore of the beautiful Khuvsgul Lake and the southern foothill of the majestic Sayan Mountains also the town has a border with Russia, and during summer lots of Russian travelers visit at the town as well. 

Tour itineraries for 4N5D and 6N7D

This year we offer two different tour plans. 

The first one is the 6N7D tour for 85,000 YEN and the other one is the 4N5D tour for 75,000 YEN. Both plans include meals and transportation throughout the trip. 

6N7D plan includes 2 nights accommodations and meals in Ulaanbaatar. 4N5D plan gives you the flexibility to arrange your own accommodation while in Ulaanbaatar.

If you are unfamiliar with Mongolia here is the tour map for you. Mongolia is massive and in one way will drive more than 1000 kilometers as illustrated on the tour map. 

However, it does not mean that driving is the only option. You may want to avoid long driving and want to save time in that case you can fly from Ulaanbaatar to Murun city in one way or two ways. However, during the Ice Festival, flight tickets are extremely competitive we recommend purchasing them as soon as it is available for sale.
