Tour itinerary

Today we will visit Mountains Baga Gazriin Chuluu, located in Dund Gobi province. An exquisite rock formation that looks like legos stacked on top of each other, Baga Gazariin Chuluu is one of the must-visit places in the Mongolian Gobi.   

While you visit there you can spot wild sheep, ibexes and mammals, rare rodents and, old stone temple ruins related to the 17th century.

On the first day of your tour, we will travel to one of the most famous areas of the Mongolian Gobi, Tsagaan suvarga in other words – the White Stupas is located in DundGobi province, Mongolia.  Tsagaan suvarga is a 30-meters high, abrupt, stupa-shaped cliff. The Area was the bottom of the ocean millions of years ago and today you can see red, yellow, orange, and purple layers there in the cliff. During sunrise, the cliff looks like a faraway city, or stupas so locals named this sacred place Tsagaan suvarga. You will have to drive through the ‘Never Find” steppe to reach the Tsagaan suvarga and this steppe is famous for being frustratingly hard to find what you are looking for or where you heading.

On the second day of your tour, we will drive to Yoliin am, also called Eagle Valley. We will pass through the Dalanzadgad, which is the biggest city in the Mongolian Gobi region. Do little city tour we will continue to drive Yoliin am, which is located 60km from the city. After reaching the main entrance of Yoliin am, first, we will visit a small natural history museum at the entrance then will drive a little further to the valley. Once reaching the parking spot we will ride a horse through the canyons of Yoliin am. 

The Yoliin am, in other words, Eagle valley is a beautiful and picturesque canyon located in Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park, East Beauty of the “Three Beauties” mountain.

Today we will drive to Khongor sand dunes or singing dunes. Khongor sand dunes are the biggest sand dunes in Mongolia, reaching a height of 300 meters. Climbing up to the Khongor sand dunes is an extreme exercise, but once you get to the top you can enjoy the whole scenery, and all hardships that you faced while climbing up to the top will be forgotten. 

Tips: It is better to climb barefooted, and keep your phone and camera in a safe bag to protect from the sand. Do not forget to bring some water. The best time to climb up to the sand dunes is sunrise or sunset. 

Plus, to make your Gobi desert experience even more unique, we will ride on a Mongolian camel through the area.

After breakfast, we will drive to Bayanzag, also known as Flaming Cliffs where the first nest of dinosaur eggs was ever discovered in 1922. You can enjoy walking around the same place as 60 million years ago dinosaurs were roaming around. There is a high chance that you can discover fossils if you look for them thoroughly. In the evening, photoshoot flaming cliffs and watch a documentary about this wonderful place.

Today we will drive through the Ongi steppe with the destination of Ongi Temple ruins. Located in Middle Gobi, the Ongi Temple ruins is where a thousand lamas had lived a hundred years ago. Located in Ongi river bank Ongi monastery was twin, and separated by Ongi river, and connected with a wooden bridge. Ongi monastery was the biggest Buddhist monastery in the Mongolian Gobi region but was sadly destroyed by the communists during religious purge repression in the 1930s. Through this dark time, all of the monasteries were destroyed and over 17,000 monks were killed or arrested and never seen again, with total victims can be counted of about 27,000 people. This dark history of violence at Ongiin monastery is still visible in bare eyes, even though it happened over 80 years ago.

To this day, the only working chapel was rebuilt in the 1990s. Also, at the entrance, You can visit the small ger museum that shows the history of the Ongi monastery.

Today we will visit Orkhon Waterfall or Ulaantsutgalan as locals call. While driving to the north, to the Orkhon valley the landscape changes dramatically from semi-desert into forest-steppe. Orkhon waterfall is one of the best sights in central Mongolia with its surroundings and the beauty of the waterfall itself falls from 24m high. The Waterfall is also part of the Orkhon Valley Cultural Landscape that was registered under UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 2004.

Today we will visit Tsenkher hot springs. The Tsenkher hot spring is where you can lounge in the hot springs of the camp to relieve your stress and tiredness.

After breakfast, we will drive to Kharkhorin the ancient capital of the Great Mongolian empire. Once arriving in the Kharkhorin city, firstly we will visit the Kharkhorin museum to see exhibitions from The Great Mongol state period, Stone age, Bronze age, even the Ancient state period. After lunch, we will visit Erdene-Zuu, the oldest Buddhist monastery in Mongolia, with 108 stupas, which were built in the 16th century. The Erdene Zuu monastery was built on ruins of ancient  Kharkhorin city, so you still can see some remains from the 13th century.

After breakfast, we will drive back to Ulaanbaatar and city sightseeing tour including shopping centers for souvenirs and cashmere. In the evening, you will enjoy a live performance of Mongolian National folklore and will have a nice dinner.

3. Upon your arrival in Ulaanbaatar, our driver will pick you up from the airport or train station and take you to your hotel. On this day depending on your arrival time city tour is available. And the last day of your tour our driver will take you to the airport, and a city tour is not included.

4. A single supplement is available if you want to use a room just for yourself. If you want a single supplement please make an inquiry with our booking manager. The single supplement is 70$ per night.

Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive in Zürich, Switzerland

We’ll meet at 4 p.m. at our hotel in Luzern (Lucerne) for a “Welcome to Switzerland” meeting. Then we’ll take a meandering evening walk through Switzerland’s most charming lakeside town, and get acquainted with one another over dinner together. Sleep in Luzern (2 nights). No bus. Walking: light.

Day 2Zürich–Biel/Bienne–Neuchâtel–Geneva

Enjoy an orientation walk of Zurich’s OLD TOWN, Switzerland’s center of banking and commerce. Then, leave Zurich and start your Swiss adventure. You’ll quickly discover that Switzerland isn’t just home to the Alps, but also to some of the most beautiful lakes. First, stop at the foot of the Jura Mountains in the picturesque town of Biel, known as Bienne by French-speaking Swiss, famous for watch-making, and explore the historical center. Next, enjoy a scenic drive to lakeside Neuchâtel, dominated by the medieval cathedral and castle. Time to stroll along the lake promenade before continuing to stunning Geneva, the second-largest city in Switzerland, with its fantastic lakeside location and breathtaking panoramas of the Alps.

Day 3Enchanting Engelberg

Our morning drive takes us from Swiss lakes to Swiss Army. At the once-secret Swiss army bunker at Fortress Fürigen, we’ll see part of the massive defense system designed to keep Switzerland strong and neutral. Afterward, a short drive into the countryside brings us to the charming Alpine village of Engelberg, our picturesque home for the next two days. We’ll settle into our lodge then head out for an orientation walk. Our stroll through the village will end at the Engelberg Abbey, a Benedictine monastery with its own cheese-making operation. You’ll have free time to wander back before dinner together. Sleep in Engelberg (2 nights). Bus: 1 hr. Walking: light.

Day 4Interlaken Area. Excursion to The Jungfrau Massif

An unforgettable trip to the high Alpine wonderland of ice and snow is the true highlight of a visit to Switzerland. Globus Local Favorite At an amazing 11,332 feet, the JUNGFRAUJOCH is Europe’s highest railway station. Jungfrau’s 13,642-foot summit was first ascended in 1811 and in 1912 the rack railway was opened. There are lots of things to do here: enjoy the ALPINE SENSATION, THE PANORAMA 360° EXPERIENCE, and the ICE PALACE. Also receive your JUNGFRAU PASSPORT as a souvenir to take home with you. The round trip to the “Top of Europe” by MOUNTAIN TRAIN will take most of the day.

Day 5Lake Geneva and Château de Chillon

It’s market day in Lausanne! Enjoy browsing and packing a picnic lunch for our 11 a.m. boat cruise on Lake Geneva. A few miles down-shore we’ll dock at Château de Chillon, where we’ll have a guided tour of this delightfully medieval castle on the water. On our way back we’ll take time to peek into the vineyards surrounding Lutry before returning to Lausanne. Boat: 2 hrs. Bus: 1 hr. Walking: moderate.
